Jalapeno Canadian

(Thanks Patz!)

It's 10.35 and I've already spent 2 hours in meetings. I've only been back in Iowa for 12 hours.

I forgot my usb camera cord thingy at home.

I prolly have 200+ pictures from Vancouver.

I've never been so depressed to come home before...

I'm a zombie today.

I'll write something quality later...or tomorrow.

Spicy heart Vancouver.

City Girl Strikes Again!

I was eating Thai food the other night, a very delicious dish, and it included Baby Corn.

I've always LOVED Baby Corn.

Opie, my dinner companion, started talking about how his dad claimed that Baby Corn from field corn was just as good as sweet corn baby corn.

So we went out into the field and he pulled some off a field corn plant, scraped some off, took a bite, gave me some, and you know what, it was good!

. . .

::Deer in Headlights Look:: What?

Yeah so...BAHAHAHAHa You didn't know that did you?!

Wait, WHAT?!

Baby Corn is just that, young corn.

Pulled from the stalk early.

Separated from it's little incubator husk, all young and supple.

Pi had no idea.

Seriously I thought it was another plant altogether!

That they were already full-grown...

Now I know.

And so do you.

(you're welcome)

Pi's going to Vancouver tomorrow!!

No post today but...

Less than a week...

The Pi is going to Vancouver!

So if you live in that general vicinity, you can hang out with me and then tell all your friends how cool you are cuz you got drunk with The Pi!

You know you want to.

Oh yeah, some excitement for my Friday, West Des Moines, where I live and work, recently named one of the best places to live, had a Manhunt going on today... I could see the helicopter from my office window, and a coworker's husband's office building was locked down with police with guns drawn patrolling it...

Maybe Iowa isn't always boring.

You remember those Sally Struthers train wreck commercials where she's the Fat American holding onto poor dark skinned children, begging for you to send them $$...

I sure do, and we all made fun of it...

Last week, I was watching the Colbert Report when a commercial for the Christian Children's League came on...

And with only pennies a day you too could help children like Raquel:
And Lucian:

And Laura:

These children need to see a doctor. . .

Wait...'Laura'?

Where's Johnny and Timmy?

Can you call and request-a-kid?

Uh.. yeah, could you give me the whitest kid you have to sponsor? Can I get one with blue eyes?

She seemed so out of place in the commercial...
which one of the camera guys let their kid run around?

. . .

Yesterday as I was wandering around the office I noticed a couple of older gentleman that obviously were there for a meeting.

Course, they're old and stubborn and couldn't go to the receptionist's desk and have her annouce that they were here.

They wandered around to the room where they usually have their meeting...

Pi: Can I help you two?

We're here for a meeting, I think it's usually in this room ::points::

Who do you have a meeting with?

Jon.

OK, I'll let him know you're here, can I get you something to drink?

(((HEAD EXPLODES LIKE SPOCK DOING THE MIND MELD)))

Whoa. I just experienced a collision of my 1st and 3rd job.

I must've looked a little stunned in my realization
cuz the guy looked at me like, 'what's your problem?' as he said, 'No thanks, I don't care for anything right now'

I wandered off in a daze and let the other meeting attendees know...

Scotty, beam me up.

Mother Nature is a Tease

In my mind October has alwasy been cooler and rainy.

The leaves turn.

It gets a little gloomier.

Those windbreakers and light jackets start coming out.

Sandals go away.

Halloween was always rainy.

This year, the weather has been a little fucked up.

In Iowa it appears to be the norm.

It was cover your balls cold out about a month ago.

Then it was perfect.

70s, sunny, Gorgeous.

And for about a week, it was normal.

Mother Nature hiked up her skirt to tease us with one last taste of summer...

Oct 1-3, 2006: 80s and humid.

Oct 4: Overcast, high of 65 and chance of rain.

You bitch!

The sleepy-type weather is moving in...at least the view is pleasant.

Until the trees get naked.

Harvest is coming up and make sure you watch for deer.

This is when I notice the most difference between Chicago and Iowa.

The sun is setting earlier.

Now I wish I didn't have a stupid window in my cubicle.

might have to ignore that last post, i was crabby. i need this stupid blog. it's my escape from work. while i'm chained here to my desk it is my wandering thoughts, it keeps me sane etcetc....i heart u, blog.

Oh yeah, Happy Birthday Mamma Pi! She's 48 :)

(yeah, i know it's blurry...)

This hurts...

...but it must be done.

Work is a bitch right now
and my stress level makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a plastic spork.

So this is a sort-of hiatus.

I might be able to read all my fave blogs over there in the links, but all those on probation...well too bad.

I even need to work late.

my stress, laziness, and lack of sleep are putting me in a bad mood.

fuck off, i'm busy.

Guns!

Pi didn't grow up with guns.

No, I didn't live in the Ghetto part of Chicago and no we didn't carry 'gats' while we were riding our bikes in the neighborhood.

I didn't see a gun up close and personal as in I knew the owner until I was 19 or 20...

My first college bf was a small town iowa boy.

They hunt.

With guns.

Wait, you have guns?!

Yeah.

Like HERE, or at your parents' place?

Both.

Where do you keep the gun you have here?

Under the bed.

I was disturbed.

Guns kinda scare me.

So he took me shooting.

No biggie, just a little .22 rifle. Reminded me of my brother's bb gun.

Still scared the crap outta me when I fired it.

Saturday, I had a chance to go shooting again.

So I went.

The shooting range was named after a guy named Butch.

I could feel the testosterone pouring out of that place...

I was a little squeamish when we got there and my buddies pulled out their rifles. . .

These were BIG.

There were lots of people firing lots of guns...

Some of them were LOUD. Made me jump. (and feel like a wimp)

The Big O brought his Winchester Model 70.

Naked Hummus had a similar sized rifle.

7mm WSM rounds.

Ear plugs. Check. Safety Glasses. Check.

So I sit down, check out the rifle.

It's heavy.

Bolt action reloader thingy.

Sweet. Just like all those movies when you see a sniper pull on something and a shell pops out...

I used a shoulder pad. (I'm a Delicate Flower.)

Tuck it in...Lean into it...

Check out the sight. A target 100 yards away.

Finger on the trigger. (squeeze it gently squeeze it gently squeeze it gently)

FIRE

Recoil Eyes shut Shake it off

Whoa.

Cool.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

After firing 4 rounds, we checked the target. OK, a little NW of where I was aiming.

Do it again, adjusting for the wander.

Spot on. I rock.

Time to try NH's rifle.

This one is different. You can feel the heat of the barrel through the grip.

First shot is good.

The second two....notsomuch.

My shoulder started to spaz out. Couldn't hold the gun steady.

It still hurts today.
But no bruise.

Maybe I'll take up guns.

Would you sell one to this face?

(so sowwy for the delay, who woulda thought the end of a quarter, the last week of two companies, and the first day of a new one would be so goddamn busy.)
